Issue #5 - The "Google" of Web3 🔎

Twitter's Hexagon-Shaped NFTs, SpiceDAO Crowdfunds Dune, & Opera's Huge Announcement

Good morning Shifters,

One of the things I love most about Web3 is that it's positive sum. Yes, competition is fierce (i.e. Uniswap vs. Sushiswap), but moving the industry forward is prioritized over any one individual or company. As such, as a Web3 media and education company, we perceive our competitors as our closest friends, folks we can learn from and partner with.

We're happy to be collaborating with Smoothie, one of the greatest educational resources in Web3. Started by Matt Kim, Smoothie is a newsletter that helps you learn crypto with visual storytelling. Every week, they deconstruct the best crypto trends and share those insights with you. Subscribe to Smoothie here:

→ Twitter Lets Users Verify NFTs

→ SpiceDAO Tries to Animate Dune

→ Opera Building a Browser For Web3

Twitter, home to a significant chunk of Web3 discourse, has created a feature that allows users to authenticate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by connecting their crypto wallets to their profiles. NFTs that are connected to Twitter (and the blockchain) will appear as a hexagon shape in someone's profile picture.

- With this new feature, Twitter is separating NFT pretenders (i.e. people pretending to own a Bored Ape) from true holders who can verify digital items on the blockchain.

- Twitter is supporting popular wallets like Coinbase wallet, Ledger Live, Metamask, Rainbow, Trust Wallet, and Argent.

- This feature costs a $2.99 Twitter Blue subscription and requires you to use an iOS device.

Spice DAO, a cryptocurrency-backed community, has purchased book art for an potential film adaption of the popular book series Dune for $2.5 million. The DAO bought the art collection last November that was created by director Alejandro Jodrowsky in the 1970s.

- The DAO originally claimed that it would make the art book public and produce an original animated series based on the book and sell it to a streaming service, but it later became clear that ownership of the book did not grant them intellectual property rights to distribute copies of the book.

- For the animated series, Spice DAO is in the development phase and currently talking with writers, producers, animation studios, graphic novel publishers, and attorneys.

- In 2022, DAOs are increasingly emerging as effective infrastructure in supercharging community-driven efforts into cultural and social action.

Opera has unveiled the beta for their new Crypto Browser Project, a new Web3-friendly internet browser designed to support decentralized applications and features. Opera's goal is to solve fundamental problems with the current state of the web by creating a browser that is more open, decentralized, and user-owned.

- The browser will support a number of decentralized applications, organize Web3 news, airdrops, and events, and include a native non-custodial crypto wallet without having to install any extensions.

- Crypto Corner, Opera's homepage, will quickly bring users up to date on the most important information in crypto including prices, gas fees, podcasts, and relevant news.
